How it all started...
In high school, I was lucky enough to attend a one-week Art Enrichment Program at Boyd River. Though it was a short stay, it was an experience I will never forget. I was in a papermaking course among 15 other students, taught by an artist. She taught us the techniques she used to make her sculptures, and papermaking with plant fibers. After the course our sculptures were put on display at the Queen's Quay Harbourfront Center.
After high school I attended the Ontario College of Art and Design. In 2004 I won first place in LCBO's 2004 Student Social Responsibility Creative Competition. And in 2005, I received my Bachelor of Design degree.
Later I worked in advertising agencies such as Young & Rubicam and Grey Worldwide as an Art Director. Clients I've work with include Ontario Tourism, Dairy Queen, and LG to name a few.
In July 2009 I lost my job due to the company's restructuring plan. Instead of looking for another job at another agency, I decided to take this opportunity to re-visit the experience I left at Boyd River.
At first I made a few sculptures, and uploaded them to Etsy.com. It wasn't long until I sold my first sculpture, and received many "hearts" from other Etsy members. I am now continuing to make more sculptures, refining my techniques along the way. In September 2009, I attended my first craft show at the Wychcraft Market in Toronto.
Today with support from the Ontario Arts Council, I am teaching paper light sculpture making skills to high school students throughout Ontario.
